Internationals Women's Day - Quantum spotlight - Manjari Chadran-Ramesh

03/07/2022

Highlighted purple in every calendar, 8th March 2022 represents International Women's Day! Manjari Chadran-Ramesh, Partner at Amadeus Capital Partners explored her Quantum journey and the role she plays within the company.

How did you enter the quantum world? What is your current role?

Having done a PhD in machine learning decades ago, I find any new technology incredibly interesting and more importantly understand what it can enable in the commercial world. I am currently a Partner in the Early-Stage team at Amadeus Capital Partners where we invest in deeptech companies. With regards to Quantum, I was lucky enough to get meetings with world -renowned Professors in Quantum Technologies from Oxford and UCL who then helped me understand the space much better.

Are you seeing more women breaking through the tech industries glass ceiling?

I think every year there is more progress on this front. I would love for the pace to be a lot faster and there is undoubtably still more work to be done, but it is better to be moving in a positive direction rather than to standstill.

What advice would you give other women in the same position as you?

Although I don’t think people in the same position as I am need advice, if you are thinking of starting or moving into a career in Quantum, I would suggest disregarding the hype and going back to reputable publications/research papers to really understand the potential of the technology and the market. It’s important to beware of the people who will automatically assume that you are not technical and will try to explain Quantum to you, even when they don’t understand it themselves!

Who is your role model?

I’ve had many role models over the years and the list is getting longer. Currently, I am incredibly inspired by the founders of Amadeus Capital Partners - Anne Glover and Dr. Hermann Hauser. To have started and successfully led a deeptech venture fund over 24 years, is not only incredibly hard work but also requires a lot of interdisciplinary skills!
