Dr. Alexey Galda is the Associate Scientific Director of Quantum Algorithms & Applications at Moderna, where he leads the design of next-generation quantum computing methods to accelerate drug discovery—particularly the co-optimization of mRNA sequences for novel therapeutics. Drawing on more than 13 years of interdisciplinary research at the nexus of quantum information science, machine learning, and molecular design, he has guided teams from fundamental theory to deployable solutions. Alexey earned his Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from the University of Birmingham (UK), specializing in strongly correlated quantum systems. He continued his work as a postdoctoral fellow at Argonne National Laboratory before serving five years as a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago, during which he secured competitive NSF and DOE awards. After a decade in academia, he held chief-scientist roles at several quantum- and AI-focused startups, translating cutting-edge research into industry products. Since joining Moderna in 2023, Alexey has expanded the company’s quantum program, forging strategic partnerships and pioneering algorithms that marry quantum computing with mRNA drug design.
