DAY 1 THURSDAY JUNE 25TH

2:30 PM Quantum and the Cybersecurity Imperative

Quantum computing promises to revolutionize various industries by solving complex problems exponentially faster than classical computers. However, this immense power also poses significant threats, such as the known (and proven) potential to break today's encryption systems, leading to unprecedented challenges in data security. Furthermore, as Quantum threatens algorithms, AI and other attack vectors are equally, or arguably more, a threat to cyber security. This session is crucial for anyone keen on understanding the future landscape of cybersecurity.
Establishing quantum resilience is a big step toward protection and safety of our data assets. Staying ahead of these developments is key to ensuring the security of your organisation's operations and client data. The challenge of quantum computing must become part of your risk assessment cycle, NOW. Not to mention the current "set-and-forget" security is simply dead, we must move to crypto-agility.
With the release of NIST's candidate standards, every organization should start developing a quantum-safe strategy. This involves more than just adopting new algorithms—it requires a thorough review of key management practices, infrastructure readiness for larger key sizes, and the potential performance impact. It's also essential to consider hybrid encryption approaches that combine existing security methods with new Post Quantum algorithms and Quantum Key Distribution. Additionally, as the world moves towards PQC, it is imperative that organisations keep an eye on interoperability. Regardless of whether you consider quantum to be a threat, or not, if you don't migrate to the newer algorithms, you'll be disconnected from the rest of the world.
