Co-Director of the Quantum Science and Engineering Initiative Harvard University
Mikhail Lukin

Mikhail Lukin's research is in the areas of quantum optics and atomic physics. The emphasis is on studies of quantum systems consisting of interacting photons, atoms, molecules and electrons coupled to realistic environments. We are developing new techniques for controlling the quantum dynamics of such systems, and studying fundamental physical phenomena associated with them. These techniques are used to explore new physics, as well as to facilitate implementation of potential applications in emerging areas such as quantum information science and in more traditional fields such as nonlinear optics. In the course of this work we are also exploring the emerging interfaces between quantum optics and atomic physics on the one hand, and condensed matter and mesoscopic physics on the other. CV

PRE-DAY

3:00 PM HARVARD QUANTUM INITIATIVE SITE TOUR

We are pleased to announce a VIP pre-conference site tour of the Harvard Quantum Initiative (HQI), taking place on the afternoon of June 24th, as part of the pre-day programme of Quantum.Tech.

This exclusive half-day experience has been specially curated for conference participants, offering a rare opportunity to visit one of the world's leading centres for quantum science and engineering in advance of the main event.

About the Harvard Quantum Initiative

The Harvard Quantum Initiative is a university-wide effort that brings together researchers across physics, engineering, chemistry, and computer science to advance the frontiers of quantum science. Its work spans both fundamental research and solution-driven quantum engineering, with the aim of accelerating the development of next-generation quantum technologies.

Research at HQI focuses on understanding and controlling quantum systems—including atoms, photons, and nanoscale materials—to enable breakthroughs in areas such as quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum sensing. By fostering collaboration across disciplines, the initiative plays a central role in shaping the future of quantum technologies.

Programme Overview

The VIP pre-day tour will provide attendees with an in-depth introduction to Harvard's quantum ecosystem through a structured and interactive programme:

Expert Presentations

Talks delivered by leading researchers will explore key developments in quantum science, from foundational principles to emerging technological applications.

Guided Laboratory Visits

Participants will be organised into small cohorts for guided access to active quantum research laboratories, providing a behind-the-scenes view of experimental platforms and instrumentation.

Interactive Engagement

The programme is designed to facilitate direct dialogue with researchers, enabling attendees to gain insight into ongoing work and future directions in the field.

Leadership

The tour will be led by Mikhail Lukin, co-director of the Harvard Quantum Initiative, together with members of his research team. Professor Lukin is internationally recognised for his contributions to quantum optics and quantum information science, with research spanning both fundamental physics and the development of novel quantum technologies.

Participation

Due to the nature of laboratory access and the emphasis on small-group interaction, places for this tour are strictly limited.

This VIP pre-day experience forms a key part of the Quantum.Tech programme, offering selected participants a unique opportunity to engage directly with leading researchers and explore cutting-edge quantum research facilities ahead of the main conference.
