Nate Ferraro is a physicist advancing fusion energy at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, where he presently serves as the Deputy Head of the Theory Department and the leader of the Equilibrium, Transients, and Control Theory group. His research focuses on using high-performance computing to optimize the stability and control of magnetically confined fusion plasmas. In 2025 he received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on early-career scientists and engineers. Dr. Ferraro has also played a leading role in strategic planning for the U.S. fusion program, serving as chair of the 2025 Fusion Theory, Engineering, AI, Modeling, and Simulation Workshop and co-chair of the 2019 APS-DPP Community Planning Process. Currently, he serves as the Vice-Chair of the U.S. Fusion Theory Coordinating Committee and the Vice-Chair for Theory and Simulation in the U.S. Tokamak Research Program.
