Daniel Johnston

Daniel S. Johnston earned his Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and completed postdoctoral training at Washington State University. He spent nearly 10 years at the pharmaceutical company Wyeth/Pfizer, where he led projects focused on early-stage drug discovery for contraception and developed translational research expertise in the therapeutic areas of women's health and oncology. Between 2010 and 2016, Daniel served as Vice President of Pharmaceutical Research at Delcath Systems and Director of Preclinical Research and Development at Cellphire, Inc. In 2016, he joined NICHD as chief of the Contraception Research Branch. As of November 2025, Daniel serves as chief of the Fertility and Infertility Branch and acting chief of the Contraception Research Branch
