Mary Weitzel is co-Founder and CEO of Yaso Therapeutics, a clinical stage pharmaceutical company advancing new drug products based on a novel small molecule carboxylated polyanion called PPCM. Mary also serves as PI for Yaso, serving as project manager coordinating academic researchers, CROs and the Yaso team. As PI she secured NIH SBIR funding from both NIAID and NICHD to develop a non-hormonal, low cost and safe women's contraceptive which may prevent disease from benchtop to an open IND. She and her team have collaborated with academic investigators, federal agencies, and global health organizations on programs addressing MPT HIV prevention, sexually transmitted infections, and multipurpose prevention technologies. Prior to Yaso, she served as President of Instead Inc., now Evofem Inc. where she licensed and began preclinical studies of what is now Phexx®. Prior to Instead Inc. she was President of CBI Labs, a division of ThermoElectron, one of the largest contract manufacturers of personal care and OTC drug products for women. Prior to these roles she was President or Operations manager for specialty chemicals, and specialty polymers. Mary holds a BS in engineering from the University of Utah and an MBA from the Harvard School of Business Administration
