Gianna Wilkie

Dr. Gianna Wilkie is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School. She completed her medical school training at UMass Chan Medical School and her OBGYN residency at the integrated program at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. She then completed her fellowship in Maternal fetal medicine at UMASS Chan. Her research focuses on improving cardiometabolic health across the reproductive life course, with a particular emphasis on diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Dr. Wilkie's work seeks to transform pregnancy complications, including gestational diabetes and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, into opportunities for early identification and prevention of lifelong cardiovascular disease. She uses a multidisciplinary approach that integrates clinical trials, qualitative research, implementation science, and patient and stakeholder engagement to develop and evaluate strategies that improve care delivery and advance health equity. Dr. Wilkie is supported by the National Institutes of Health through a career development award focused on improving early detection of diabetes in pregnancy. She has expertise in clinical research methods, health services research, and patient-centered outcomes research, with a focus on translating evidence into meaningful improvements in clinical practice.
