Kate Arnold

Dr. Kate Arnold joined ARPA-H in January 2025. Since then she has designed and launched MOCS, Making Obstetric Care Smart, which is funding companies to develop new technology for intrapartum fetal montoring on labor and delivery. The impact of this will be wide reaching from decreases in cesarean sections and materal mortality to decreases in provider burn out and maternal care deserts. She's now turning her attention to fertility care and how we can decrease our need for IVF. Before ARPA-H she practiced medicine full time for 10 years and still practices part time. She also has her MBA and served as CMO for Watkins Conti Products and FemInnovation. She has leadership experience in academic centers, federally qualified health centers, and in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

4:10 PM Panel: Why Maternal Mortality Persists in High-Income Countries

  • Examine how reducing clinician burden and redesigning pregnancy care, through equitable communication models and proven approaches like group visits, can improve patient understanding, strengthen continuity, and ultimately reduce preventable maternal mortality
  • Looking at early risk detection as a solution to lowering maternal mortality rates, specifically exploring why many women do not seek care early and why reaching them sooner is so critical.
  • How outdated maternal diagnostic tools continue to drive uncertainty, unnecessary C‑sections, and preventable risk, as clinicians are still relying on decades‑old monitoring systems to make high‑stakes decisions during labor.
